Java is a high-level, platform-independent programming language. The Java programming language was primarily developed to create platform-independent software.

A byte code file is created with an extension .class when we compile a Java source code file. This byte code file can be shared and run on any system that has Java Virtual Machine(JVM) installed on it. This JVM gives Java the ability to Write once and run anywhere.

Why Are Java Applications Called WORA?

"WORA" is one of the fundamental principles of Java. WORA principle allows you to write code on one system and run it on another with JVM installed on it, even if the hardware and operating system are different.

The JVM interprets Java bytecode, which is the same regardless of where it runs, ensuring that Java programs execute consistently across different platforms without modification. This cross-platform capability is a key feature of Java, making it highly versatile and portable.

programming languages before java

In Java, programs with the .java extension are converted into bytecode files with the .class extension by a compiler. JVM (Java Virtual Machine) converts bytecode into platform-understandable code.

JVM is the core of the "WORA" principle. Each platform has its own JVM implementation, which means that as the platform changes, the only thing that needs to change to run the code is the JVM.

Programmers do not require platform-specific code, but rather a platform-specific JVM.

How the WORA Principle Enhances Java Programming Capabilities

  1. Cross-platform capabilities:

Java programs can run on any platform irrespective of OS and hardware configuration

  1. Internet and HTML Support:

Java supports different internet protocols like HTTP, FTP, SMTP etc. In addition to that it has the ability to parse and create HTML documents.

  1. API Support:

Desired functionalities can be achieved using vast APIs provided by Java.

  1. XML Parsing:

Java reads and creates XML Data, which allows the sharing of code across different platforms.

  1. Java even provides Web Services Support.

Conclusion

All things considered, the WORA principle of Java enables programmers to produce dependable and portable software, particularly when developing cross-platform applications. If you’re planning to become a Java developer, it’s time to check out our Java Course.
